STUDENT ENGINEER AWARD.
This award recognises an undergraduate engineering student or group of students demonstrating outstanding design and innovation in their final year tertiary project. It celebrates the next generation of engineering talent and their potential to drive innovation in the field.
Entries should demonstrate:

development or improvement of a device or methodology with an innovative and unique design

advanced problem-solving skills and creative thinking
-
the consideration of social, environmental, and economic impacts
-
clear communication of complex engineering concepts
-
the potential for real-world applications, or to influence future research.
Eligibility

Entries are open to individuals or teams.

The work must have been done while the entrant/s studied an Engineering New Zealand-accredited qualification.

The entrant’s work must have been undertaken between November 2022 and November 2024.

The entry must be completed by either a:

dean or programme director or equivalent
-
programme leader in an engineering discipline, or
-
paper coordinator for the project being submitted.

The entrant doesn’t have to be an Engineering New Zealand member.
Judging criteria

Innovation (25%): Originality and creativity in the design solution

Technical merit (25%): Depth and quality of engineering analysis and design
-
Impact (20%): Consideration of social, environmental and economic effects
-
Communication (15%): Clarity and effectiveness in presenting ideas
-
Problem definition (15%): Clear articulation of requirements and constraints.
