YOUNG ENGINEER

This award recognises early-career engineers who’ve already made significant accomplishments and show promise for future leadership in the profession. It highlights the importance of nurturing talent and celebrates those making a mark early in their careers.

Entrants should demonstrate:

excellence in engineering projects or initiatives
-
evidence of leadership potential and ability to influence positive change
-
commitment to continuing professional development and lifelong learning
-
strong communication skills and ability to articulate complex ideas
-
involvement in professional organisations or community outreach
-
vision for the future of engineering and the entrant’s role in shaping it.
Eligibility
-
Entries are open to New Zealand citizens and permanent residents.

The entrant must be a tertiary-qualified engineer aged 35 or younger on 1 November 2024.

The entrant can’t have received the award previously from Engineering New Zealand or IPENZ.
-
Finalists must be available in April/May 2025 for an online interview with the judging panel.

The entrant doesn't have to be an Engineering New Zealand member.
Judging criteria

Career achievements (30%): Notable accomplishments and contributions to significant initiatives

Leadership potential (25%): Demonstrated ability to influence and guide others
-
Professional development (20%): Commitment to ongoing learning and career growth
-
Communication skills (15%): Ability to articulate ideas clearly and persuasively
-
Vision and impact (10%): Understanding of engineering's role in society and potential for future contributions
